"You have to leave this and, if you want, we'll see each other in wineries or in a cider house. I wish you luck, but by another route". This is the sentence with which Jesús Guibert said goodbye to his kidnappers after the captivity that took place from 21 March to 7 April 1983. Guibert was kidnapped by the Comandos Autónomos Anticapitalistas, a splinter organisation of ETA. His son, José María Guibert, a Jesuit, former rector of the University of Deusto and current lecturer at Comillas Pontifical University, spoke at length about "La Caverna: diario de un secuestro", a book written in memory of his father and all the Basque businessmen who suffered the threats of the terrorist group. Together with María Buzarco, lecturer at Comillas ICADE, he relived a life that was marked by the socio-political situation that was taking place at that time in the Basque Country.
The conversation, which was presented by the Rector of Comillas, Antonio Allende, SJ, took place at the new Arrupe Campus located on Calle Mateo Inurria in Madrid. Also present at this meeting, the first organised jointly by the Comillas Alumni and Deusto Alumni services, were Juan José Etxeberria, SJ, Rector of the University of Deusto and Ana García-Mina, delegate of the University Sector of the Spanish Province of UNIJES. Virginia Tolín, director of Comillas Alumni, valued the event as "an example of the potential of our network". And she added: "the collaboration between Comillas Alumni and Deusto Alumni, not only strengthens our ties, but also enriches our entire university community. We are convinced that meetings like this one allow us to continue to grow together".
