Comillas pays tribute to Santiago Madrigal, SJ, and presents his posthumous book

Comillas and its Faculty of Theology (Comillas CIHS) paid an emotional tribute to Santiago Madrigal, SJ, who recently passed away. All those present, from the rector of the university, Antonio Allende, SJ, to Francisco Ramírez, SJ, dean of Comillas, and several lecturers, praised the work and personality of Madrigal, and presented his posthumous work, "La iglesia. Signo alzado entre las naciones. Fundamentos de Eclesiología".

Allende spoke about his literary work, recalling his time at Sal Terrae, and revealed that "we always knew that everything he sent would be published because of the relevance of the topics - always interesting because they always referred to something current; because of the clarity of his writing - he never had to correct anything -, because of the depth and rigour in the way he dealt with the subject, and because of the neatness with which he presented all his work". Allende also assured that Madrigal's ecclesiology "is one of his great contributions to this university".

In the words of the Dean of the Faculty of Theology, Francisco Ramírez, SJ, "now that the time of mourning is over, we are grateful for his life, his work and his teaching, and this posthumous book that is being presented is a continuation of it". Ramírez also highlighted Madrigal's "being a man of the Church, in every sense of the word, and his being a Jesuit priest of the Second Vatican Council".

For his part, Gabino Uribarri, professor of Theology at Comillas, member of the International Theological Commission and of the Advisory Commission of the Episcopal Commission for the Doctrine of the Faith, highlighted his theological profile, and another professor, José García de Castro, reviewed Madrigal's work from the point of view of his contribution to the study of Ignatian sources.
