Comillas Pontifical University and 10 other universities in Madrid, both public and private, have signed an agreement of adhesion to the new General Urban Development Plan of Madrid (PGOUM) proposed by the Madrid City Council to promote the territorial design and urban strategy project known as the General Plan of Madrid 360. The signing, presided over by the Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, was attended by the Rector of Comillas, Antonio Allende, SJ, together with other counterparts from the other universities.
In this way, the city council is introducing the university community to the new PGOUM in order to involve them in the reflection on the challenges facing Madrid in areas such as sustainability, access to housing, rehabilitation and the design of the city. In the words of the mayor, the aim is to "encourage students to participate actively in the process of drafting a general plan that will define the future of this city for the coming decades".
It also seeks to promote the exchange of knowledge and internal information activities, as well as to support urban and regional projects directly linked to the cities, in order to increase the global visibility of Madrid as a benchmark in urban solutions. On the other hand, the entities that have signed these agreements undertake to provide technical advice on aspects related to the development of the project for the creation of the new general plan.
In addition to Comillas, the following have signed up to the PGOUM: the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, Universidad CEU San Pablo, Universidad Antonio Nebrija, Universidad Europea de Madrid, IE University and the Universidad de Navarra.
