Peter Trubowitz, lecturer at the London School of Economics, visited Comillas Pontifical University to present his book "Geopolitics and Democracy: The Western Liberal Order from Foundation to Fracture", co-written with Brian Burgoon, lecturer in Economic Policy at the University of Amsterdam. During his speech, Trubowitz analysed the current state of health of Western democracies, confirming the widespread disaffection and growing rejection of globalisation. "The gap between political and economic globalisation and the desire of citizens and voters began in the 1990s and has been widening over the last few years," he said.

After the presentation, the author of the book took part in a debate on these and other questions, moderated by Covadonga Meseguer, lecturer at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (Comillas ICADE), who was accompanied by Joao Nunes (CIHS), lecturer at the Department of International Relations at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (Comillas CIHS); Isik Özel, lecturer at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, and José Ignacio Torreblanca, Head of ECFR's Madrid Office.

This was not the only event in which Trubowitz participated during his time at Comillas. The professor at the London School of Economics was one of the speakers at the meeting "The New Presidency of Donald Trump: Perspectives and Risks" in which some of the possible scenarios that are being considered after the arrival of the new president of the United States were put on the table. He was joined by Adam Dubin, professor at the Faculty of Law (Comillas ICADE), Carlota Garcia Encina, professor at the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences (Comillas CIHS), and Pau Mari-Klose, professor at the University of Zaragoza. Jorge Díaz Lanchas, professor at the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies (Comillas ICADE), was in charge of moderating and conducting the event.
