The Comillas ICADE Sustainable Finance Observatory held a new Sustainable Finance Classroom which, on this occasion, was dedicated to the future of money and, more specifically, to the digital euro and public digital currencies (CBDCs). The event, which included the participation of CaixaBank Asset Management, a company that collaborates with the observatory, was attended by the Director of Investment Strategy and member of the Management Committee of CaixaBank Asset Management, Santiago Rubio de Casas; the Director of Financial Innovation and Market Infrastructures Department of the Bank of Spain, José Manuel Marqués; the lecturer at the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies (Comillas ICADE), David Tercero, and the Director of the observatory and lecturer at Comillas ICADE, Elisa Aracil.

In front of a large group of students, the experts discussed, at length, the implications of the implementation of digital money and "access to virtual means of payment". In particular, issues related to data privacy in the digital euro project and the implications for financial inclusion and the digital divide were discussed.

The event served to present the Observatory award for the Best End of Degree Project of the academic year 2023-24 to Natalia de Gortari, a student of the Degree in Business Administration and Management, with International Mention (E-4). The jury chose the E-4 student's work, entitled Impact of ESG policies on the cost of corporate debt: An empirical analysis and directed by lecturer Esther Vaquero, from among the more than forty projects submitted.

The student, who currently lives and works in New York, was unable to attend the event and thanked the Observatory for the award in a video. Her brother Felipe de Gortari, a student of the Dual Degree in Business Administration and Management and Law (E-3) at Comillas, collected the award on her behalf, presented by Santiago Rubio.

Both Rubio and Aracil acknowledged the quality of the work presented, and the satisfaction of seeing the commitment of the youngest students to sustainability.
