Last Tuesday, 5th November, the XV Bioethics Talks took place at the headquarters of the Jérôme Lejeune Foundation - Training Institute (Madrid).
In this event, Professor of the Faculty of Theology Rafael Amo, also Director of the Chair of Bioethics at Comillas, participated as a speaker, together with Gonzalo Génova, and was moderated by Elena Postigo.
They discussed the profound ethical implications of artificial intelligence (AI) in the field of health. They described AI as "mechanised intelligence" which, while improving diagnoses and disease prediction, poses complex ethical challenges, especially in relation to privacy and data bias. The discussion addressed the concept of "algorithmic morality", highlighting the difficulties in ensuring that automated decisions reflect genuine ethical principles, which are fundamental when it comes to preserving human dignity. Ethical reflection on technology is essential to prevent AI from dehumanising patients, especially those in vulnerable situations. Finally, the experts pointed out the importance of training engineers and healthcare professionals in the responsible use of AI, insisting on ethical education as a basis for integrating these advances in a beneficial and respectful way.
