On 28 June 2024, Javier de la Torre, received the annual prize awarded by the CRISMHOM association, in its XVIII edition, for his intellectual work, both theological and editorial, in the field of sexual diversity and Christianity.
Last year the prize was awarded to María Luis Berzosa FI, Cristina Inogés and Marisol Ortiz for their work in the preparation of the Synod on Synodality in favour of sexual diversity.
Javier de la Torre received the award this year for having edited and coordinated two books with international researchers and from an ecumenical point of view that are being well received, especially in Latin America. These books deal systematically with the different sources of moral theology with the participation of leading specialists in the fields of Scripture, Tradition, Magisterium, human experience and dialogue with the sciences.
The books mentioned are:
- Javier de la Torre (ed.), Homosexualidad y cristianismo en el siglo XXI, Dykinson, Madrid, 2020.
- Javier de la Torre (ed.), Diversidad sexual y cristianismo en el siglo XXI, Dykinson, Madrid, 2022.
- Also for having published with the Salesian Luis Pernas a book on Homosexuality, religious experience and spiritual accompaniment(CCS, 2023).
At the ceremony, after recalling in a festive tone the previous awards and a few words from the president, Javier de la Torre took the floor thanking the sense and ecclesial value of the CRISMHOM association and expressed the need to put in writing, black on white, ink on paper, the experiences lived in love, life and pain, the words prayed in thanksgiving and supplication before God, the words dialogued with others, to be able to say well, speak well, say better and meet better. He invited the participants to write, rewrite and deepen their religious experience, their experience of God and the Spirit in the light of what they felt in the flesh and what they heard in the Word of God. After the event, which was very well attended, there was a small agape.
Professor Javier de la Torre Díaz holds a PhD in Law, Director of the Department of Moral Theology and Praxis of Christian Life, chairs the Ethics Committee of the University and directs the Ibero-American Journal of Bioethics. He is an expert, among other disciplines, in Bioethics and Moral Theology.
