The Chair for Smart Industry analyses the digital transformation of the Army

The Comillas ICAI Chair for Smart Industry has resumed its Desayunos con CEO with the presence of Lieutenant General José María Millán Martínez, DG of the Centre for Information and Communications Systems and Technologies, and CIO of the Ministry of Defence, who analysed the digital transformation in the Spanish armies and warned of the "enormous importance of the adaptation and digital transformation of the armed forces so that they are capable of fighting in the cybernetic field".

The general affirmed that we are immersed in a kind of "digital sphere" within which "military operations are developed", which require "enormous interoperability between our own and allied forces, and a great capacity for connectivity of command systems". He also warned of the need for "a change of mentality, because 21st century warfare cannot be fought with 20th century means".

In this regard, he referred to cybersecurity, because "without it there can be no digital transformation". Millán Martínez, who avoided assessing the Arab-Israeli conflict, stated that "the Ukrainian front is also in the cloud" and that "we need leaders with a different mentality who do things differently". The combat of the future is already digital, and we must create the future, which is what avoids uncertainty," he said.
