The "San Juan de Dios" University School of Nursing and Physical Therapy holds its awards ceremony

The 44th Nursing Contest and the 15th Physical Therapy Contest bring together researchers, recognising their work and proposals

The "San Juan de Dios" University School of Nursing and Physical Therapy at Comillas Pontifical University held its 44th Nursing Competition and 15th Physical Therapy Competition, in the auditorium of the San Juan de Dios Centre in Ciempozuelos. The meeting was inaugurated by Mr. Federico de Montalvo, Vice-Rector for Institutional Relations and University General Registrar's Office of Comillas Pontifical University.

After the reading of the Minutes of the Jury's decision by Ms. Mª Lara Martínez Gimeno, secretary of the competition, the prizes were awarded and the winning projects and articles were summarised.

In the 44th Nursing Contest:

  • The Special Hospitality Prize was awarded to Ms. Marta Domingo-Osle, for her article: Educational intervention for family nursing students in long-term cancer survivorship: a randomized pilot trial.
  • On the other hand, the Research Project Award, went to Mr. Paulo Jorge Marcos Cruchinho for his paper: Cambio de turno junto al paciente: efectividad de una intervención compleja en la seguridad del cuidado.
  • Finally, the award-winning research project in the 2022 edition was received by Ms. Alicia del Saz Lara, for her project entitled: Validez de un modelo de envejecimiento vascular acelerado como índice de riesgo cardiovascular en adultos sanos: análisis factorial confirmatorio. Estudio EvasCu.


In the 15th Physiotherapy Competition:

  • The Special Hospitality Prize was awarded to Patricia Rico Mena, Javier Güeita Rodríguez, Ricardo Martino Alba, Marina Castel Sánchez y Domingo Palacios Ceña, for their article: The emotional experience of caring for children in paediatric palliative care: a qualitative study among a home-based interdisciplinary care team.
  • On the other hand, the Research Project Award, went to Mirari Ochandorena Acha for her work: Educación basada en simulaciones para facilitadores y estudiantes de fisioterapia- Proyecto SimFisio.
  • Finally, the award-winning research project in the 2022 edition was received by Sandra Rierola Fochs, for her project entitled: Efectividad de la imagen motora graduada (Protocolo GraMI sobre el dolor del miembro fantasma en el paciente amputado.


In addition, during the event, the following were recognised:

  • The Award for the best End of Degree Project of the Degree in Nursing, went to Elena Ferrera Paredes for the work: Cuidarte en pandemia, un protocolo de revisión sistemática sobre los cuidados humanizados en pandemia en las unidades de cuidados intensivos.
  • The Prize for the best End of Degree Project of the Degree in Physiotherapy, went to Patricia Arranz Rueda for the work: Eficacia de la rehabilitación pulmonar preoperatoria en pacientes candidatos a cirugía torácica por cáncer de pulmón.
  • The award for the best Master's Thesis in Palliative Care, went to Rosa Ruiz Aragoneses for the work: Indicadores para la detección de necesidades espirituales y psicoemocionales en cuidados paliativos.
  • The award for the best Master's Thesis in Biomechanics and Sports Physiotherapy, went to Francisco Javier de Oro Rosa for the work: Valores normativos de fuerza en rodilla y cadera de jugadores de baloncesto.

After this recognition, the president of the competitions and director of the school, Mr. Julio de la Torre, stressed the importance of feelings in research and how this practice should not be carried out by crossing items off a list, but with an eye on the patients. Casimiro Dueñas, superior of the Centro San Juan de Dios, invited those present to get to know and discover the functions of the centre, where the focus is on "respect, quality, charity and hospitality".

To close the event, the Vice-Rector for Institutional Relations reflected on the current state of research and encouraged the participants to continue researching, with rigour and placing humans at the centre.
