Eduard López, Professor of the Faculty of Theology, has participated in the joint work entitled La Mancha: territorio literario, edited by María Antonia García de León (Grupo Editorial Sial Pigmalión 2024. ISBN 9788410389076), with the chapter "La Mancha: humanismo y vanguardia (s. XV-XVI)".
Below is an extract from the description of the complete work:
Under the coordination of the university professor, writer and poet María Antonia García de León, some thirty excellent academics, Hispanists, poets, writers, Cervantes scholars, researchers, photographers and artists, from different countries and three continents, offer us multiple, varied and innovative readings of the same geographical context turned into a background and literary theme: the iconic land of La Mancha, known and appreciated all over the world, defined by Benito Pérez Galdós as "the most famous country of all since the whole world has become accustomed to imagine the immensity of its plains crossed by Don Quixote's horse. (...) The greatness of Don Quixote's thought can only be understood in the greatness of La Mancha".
Because La Mancha is synonymous with Spanishness and universality. As Carlos Fuentes stated: "Territory of La Mancha, that is to say, the language of Cervantes, the greatest country in the world".
These reasons are more than enough for the plains of La Mancha to arouse our interest and for us to add our voices to demand that the Quixote route be declared a World Heritage Site.
In short, the region of La Mancha, its cultural and literary heritage and its surroundings, thanks to the authors of this work, will become part of our particular History of Literature. They are, therefore, literary territory.
