Last Wednesday, 17 April 2024, the San Vicente Ferrer Faculty of Theology of the Catholic University of Valencia organised a meeting entitled "Theology in 21st century Spain", with Francisco Ramírez, SJ, Dean of the Faculty of Theology of the Pontifical University of Comillas, as speaker, together with Francisco García, Dean of the Faculty of Theology of the Pontifical University of Salamanca, and Joan Torra, Dean of the Faculty of Theology of the Ateneu Universitari Sant Pacià (Barcelona).
In his speech, the Dean and Professor Ramírez underlined the social need to continue doing theology, translating ancient and modern texts, and committing to a rigorous training that knows how to venture into presenting theology as attractive also for the laity. He also asked about theological language, its presentation and historical adaptation. The theologian of the 21st century, emphasised our Dean, is the one who perceives Theology as necessary for our society, has a presence in the forums of dialogue and faces complex questions from the Magisterium and the freedom that characterises the depth of the theologian. As for the challenges, Francisco Ramírez pointed out, Theology must dialogue with the new realities, such as Artificial Intelligence or the unbelief of young people. He also had a special remembrance for the recently deceased Professor of our Faculty, Santiago Madrigal, SJ, PhD.
The full meeting is available in open access below:
