Professor Fernando Millán, OCarm, was in charge of inaugurating the Chair of Forgiveness and Task of the so-called University of Mysticism, the International Teresian-Sanjuanist Centre (CITeS), in Avila.
With his talk, on 26 October, entitled "The limits of forgiveness. A reflection on Simon Wiesenthal's debate", Professor Millán presented the famous debate that arose around Simon Wiesenthal's work, The Sunflower. On the possibilities and limits of forgiveness, published in Spanish as Los límites del perdón ( Barcelona 1998).
In it, the famous "Nazi hunter" recalls an anecdote that took place when he was a prisoner in what was then called Lemberg (today Lviv or Leopolis). Wiesenthal was presented with the terrible dilemma of whether or not to pardon a German soldier who had participated in the massacres of Jews. Years later, he shared the same doubt with various cultural, intellectual and religious personalities, sparking off a very interesting debate in which the profound questions raised by the subject of forgiveness were revealed.
This was the opening of the 14th Congress of Anthropology, Psychology and Spirituality organised by the Edith Stein Chair, which this year was entitled Forgiveness, gift and task , and in which the lecturer from the Faculty of Human Sciences of our University, María Prieto, also took part with a paper entitled Self-forgiveness and psychology.
Professor Fernando Millán Romeral holds a PhD in Theology, from the Department of Dogmatic and Fundamental Theology, expert, among other disciplines, in sacramental theology, with special attention to Reconciliation. He is currently Director of the University Institute of Spirituality of our University.
