In a special episode, the Comillas Cast podcasts, Brújula Global and El mundo está loco, loco, loco have teamed up to offer an in-depth analysis of the recent US presidential election, which gave victory to Donald Trump. This collaboration combines the expertise of lecturers and specialists in international politics.
Juan Manuel Daganzo, head of media communication at the Corporate Communication and Institutional Relations Service at Comillas Pontifical University, and Emilio Sáenz-Francés, director of the Department of International Relations, talk with Adam Dubin and Andrea Betti, lecturers in International Relations and Law and International Relations respectively, offering an academic perspective and political analysis of this election.
The episode addresses questions that are fundamental to understanding the results: "What happened? What made Americans vote for a candidate like Donald Trump? Adam Dubin, lecturer and an American citizen, highlights crucial aspects: "The United States is a country of many countries. Extremely complicated. Issues like racism and homophobia are intertwined with socio-economic problems. In addition, a campaign funded by billions of private dollars has enabled Trump's victory". Dubin also analysed the social polarisation around figures such as Kamala Harris. On the other hand, Andrea Betti, lecturer, says that Trump's politics are "unpredictable'".
The episode also includes the participation of US citizens living in Spain, who give their points of view on the elections, and journalists who covered the elections on the front line.
This episode is now available: Brújula Global and El mundo está loco, loco, loco.
