A universal access to an affordable, reliable and sustainable energy is one of the Sustainable Development Goals stablished by the UN, but it is something that does not exist in many countries of the world. "Access to energy is a basic human right", said all the members of the Universal Energy Access Roundtable (MAUE by its Spanish acronym), to which Comillas already belongs. The MAUE has just been constituted as an association and has seen the light of day at the university.
Since its inception in May 2014, the members of the MAUE have been collaborating and developing different initiatives to exchange information and jointly develop projects on energy access. With its integration, Comillas Pontifical University “strengthens its commitment to universal access to energy” says Mariano Ventosa, Vice-Rector for Research and Teaching Staff. Not in vain, MAUE’s activities Will be in line with the Chair of Energy and Poverty, which will have researcher Roberto Barrella as a member of the Board.
Enrique Sanz, rector of Comillas, assured that "research on energy matters is key for us" and stressed the importance of transferring, through the MAUE, generated knowledge in the research carried out at the university. "This is a partnership that adds up" he added.
The constitution of the MAUE as an association brought together at the university the representatives of the organisations that make it up: ICAI Engineering Foundation for Development; Energy Without Borders Foundation; Wayvolution S.L.; acciona.org foundation; Trama Tecnoambiental (TTA) and Comillas Pontifical University. All the representatives who signed assured that “now, more than ever, the MAUE will work to make universal access to energy a reality and to raise awareness” about the importance of making energy accessible anywhere in the world.
