Doctoral Program in Philosophy: Humanism and Transcendence
It is a joint interuniversity degree between the Universidad Pontificia Comillas in Madrid and the Universidad Ramón Llull in Barcelona.
What does this doctorate consist of?
It is an interuniversity joint degree designed within the framework of the existing agreement between the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences at the Comillas Pontifical University in Madrid and the Faculty of Philosophy at the Ramón Llull University in Barcelona. The general coordination of the Program is the responsibility of the Comillas Pontifical University, although each University will be responsible for the implementation of the Program in its own Centre.
The program is taught simultaneously at each of the two sites of the institutions that have signed the collaboration agreement. Students will formalise their application for admission and enrolment through the procedure approved at the centre where they have been admitted to study the program. This enrolment at Comillas Pontifical University will be renewed every six months.
We want people motivated by the transfer to society of the knowledge acquired.
The degree will be issued jointly by the rectors of the two participating universities and will be issued in a single document. This doctoral program is organised in accordance with Royal Decree 99/2011, of 28 January, which regulates official doctoral studies.

The training activities offered as part of the programme aim to guarantee the acquisition of research competencies by doctoral students. For doctoral students with prior experience in research activities in the area of Philosophy or Humanities, said experience may be considered for official recognition and the training activities may be adjusted in accordance with their profile upon authorisation from the Academic Commission.
There are two types of training activities: core (for all doctoral students at the Doctoral School) and specific (inherent to each Programme). The activities may be mandatory or optional.
The cost of the training activities is included with registration in the Programme.

Once registered for the programme, doctoral students may access the Doctoral Programme computer application. The International Doctoral School and the Programme’s Coordinator will include the activities undertaken by the student which have been scheduled directly by the Universidad Pontificia Comillas under the “Training Activity” section. For other activities, the student will be responsible for including the information along with the corresponding proof. The advisor/supervisor will regularly review the completion of said activities which must be validated. The programme’s Academic Commission will evaluate the student’s progress each year upon receiving a report from the advisor/supervisor.
Upon admission, candidates’ academic records will be subject to a personalised study to determine the Training Complements needed in (1) philosophy and/or (2) research in the area of Philosophy or the Humanities.
For students from the Comillas Pontifical University, this will consist of:
This Training Complements will be undertaken during the first year of the programme. The time used will not be taken into consideration when calculating the maximum time allowed for completion of a doctoral thesis.

A maximum of four years, full-time, and seven years, part-time, from admission to the program until the application for submission of the doctoral thesis is made.
No, you can defend your thesis at any time if it is admitted for defence, but you should note that the minimum tuition fees are three years full-time and five years part-time.
Initially, it is advisable to contact the program coordinator to assess the possible line of research and thesis supervisor. Afterwards, you will have to register in the admissions portal and upload the necessary documentation. Depending on the program, this documentation may vary, please read carefully the information note of the selected program where the required documents are detailed.
