Can digitalisation make us more human?
Comillas organises a series of seminars to analyse legal aspects related to Spain in Europe
15 November 2024
The Centre for Innovation in Law (CID-ICADE) inaugurated its Autumn 2024 Seminar Series "Spain in Europe", which it organises together with the Royal Academy of Jurisprudence and Legislation and the Comillas-ICAI University Foundation, with a conference dedicated to digital Europe.
The conference featured the participation of Ana Fernández-Tresguerres, full member of the Royal Academy of Jurisprudence and Legislation, and Federico de Montalvo, lecturer in Constitutional Law at Comillas ICADE. Montalvo spoke about the relationship between humanism and digitalisation, and wondered whether we are dehumanising, post-humanising or transhumanising, because technology "offers human beings great power to dominate nature, and even the power to create a new one".
The lecturer said that "we are living in the most extraordinarily human times we have ever lived in", even if AI threatens to dominate the human being itself, and he hoped for an adequate regulation of Artificial Intelligence. "Progress can be made while respecting fundamental rights, and Europe is an example with the regulation of AI".
The Rector of Comillas, Antonio Allende, SJ, thanked the organisers for their confidence in Comillas and recalled Ignacio Bayón, who presided over the Comillas-ICAI University Foundation and who actively participated in bringing about these seminars.
