A voice for our times: the Social Doctrine of the Church

The Faculty of Theology publishes in open access the conferences of its 20th Conference, celebrating the sixtieth anniversary of 'Pacem in terris'.

On the 3rd and 4th of October 2023, the Faculty of Theology organised its now established conference. In this 20th edition, coordinated by Professor Dr. Javier de la Torre, the reflection of experts focused on the theme of the Social Doctrine of the Church, with a view to the sixtieth anniversary of the encyclical letter Pacem in terris, by St. John XXIII.

The 20th Conference of the Faculty of Theology was entitled "A voice for our times: the Social Doctrine of the Church".

The Conference began on 3 October with the inauguration of the Rector of our University, Dr. Enrique Sanz, SJ, accompanied by the Dean of the Faculty of Theology, Dr. Francisco Ramírez, SJ.

Joseba Segura, Bishop of Bilbao, presented by our Dean Francisco Ramírez, SJ, gave his inaugural lecture entitled "A voice for our times. Proposals of the Church in a changing era":


The day concluded with the table entitled "War and Peace, Ukraine and the World. Ordering of international relations (PT 80-129)", composed by Dr. D. Marciano Vidal and Dr. D. Alberto Priego:


The following day, 4 October, the day began with the round table "The politics of the common good and political participation. An ecclesial perspective. Organisation of political relations. The common good (PT 46-79)", with Dr. D. Julio Martínez, SJ and Dr. D. Sebastián Mora:


This was followed by Dr. José Manuel Aparicio and Dr. Mercedes Fernández, with the round table entitled "Ecology, migrations and demography in a global world. The organisation of world relations (PT 130-145)":


This was followed by the round table "Are ecclesial proposals viable in business, work and markets? The panel was followed by "Are ecclesial proposals viable in business, work and markets? Ordering of civil relations (WP 8-44)", with Dr. Raúl González, SJ and Dr. Jose María Larrú:


Finally, the 20th Conference concluded with the closing conference, given by Dr. D. Idelfonso Camacho, SJ, Emeritus Professor of Moral Theology at the Faculty of Theology of the Loyola University of Andalusia and President of the Identity and Mission Commission of UNIJES. The lecture was entitled "The Christian in the construction of a more just and humane world order. From John XXIII to Francis":
